In Trousers
A "prequel" to William Finn's groundbreaking March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, directed by Ryan O'Connor. The opening chapter of the "Marvin Trilogy" follows Marvin's exploration of his sexuality and identity through his interaction with the three most important women in his life: his high school sweetheart, his teacher, and his wife.
Torn between his natural inclination and his desire not to upset his family life as he knows it, Marvin ultimately makes the decision he feels is best for him.
The cast features the talents of Braxton Molinaro (Marvin), Tal Fox (His Wife), Michelle Lane (His Teacher), Lea Madda (His High School Sweetheart), and Brooke van Grinsven (Female Cover).
What critics have said...
“Under O’Connor’s swift-paced direction, the four actors all deliver delicious performances…it is oh so enjoyably funny and poignant when it comes to the unfolding of gay love.”
“(Director) O’Connor has a good grasp of the conundrum in the tale…The ensemble cast does an excellent job…singing their hearts out...who telegraph their every emotion with voice, facial expression, and body language. Kudos to the cast. IN TROUSERS is gifted with a trio of musicians who keep the music flowing…IN TROUSERS is a highly entertaining play told through music and movement.”
“They (the cast) lead us up and down the stage, over and under each other, achieving success with each movement, and brilliant musical talent. Vocally they are superb, and they knock your socks off with Finn’s fast paced Operetta-like music, and with Ryan O’Connor’s artful direction. We are left exuberant from it all.”
“…seldom seen over the past three decades it is joyful news that a new production is now available to L.A. audiences…Ryan O’Connor has deftly directed his four-person cast The trio of women is really great, whether in their solos or in their many tight harmonies…It truly is a delight to see and hear this rarity once more. See In Trousers…”
